Crazy Horse
They said I was a dog in a manger
stealing what was meant for others
more needy than I was.
I never understood.
Firstly,
I always thought I was a horse.
Secondly,
I was surviving by eating
whenever I could.
Surely that was right,
what was expected
in this world
of dog eat dog
and winner takes all.
No,
they said
I was mad,
off my head
I should know my place
which was at the end of the line,
should wait my turn,
and be grateful for any crumbs
left in the manger.
That was when I lost it,
really lost my head.
