To Shape A Dragon’s Breath The woman does not believe what she's seeing as the purple dragon floats by breathing rainbows from flower filled puffs of breath. It’s understandable. After all, this is not the usual sort of dragon whose fire filled breaths register alarm. But alarm registers, nevertheless, as this is not the usual sort of dragon and no one knows the shape of his next breath and no one knows how to shape it safely. https://braveandrecklessblog.com/2024/01/31/nprs-books-we-love-to-shape-a-dragons-breath-lynn-white/

Blighted Once, in Ireland one million died and we’re still counting. One million fled for their lives and we’re still counting. Equivalent to the population of Gaza before starvation ruled the land. Starvation ruled the land in Ireland when the potato crop was blighted. Without potatoes there was no food. Without potatoes there was no money for food. Without money for rent colonial landlords evicted, slave labour of starving men women and children followed the rule through occupation and colonisation. And no help came. No Aid came to help them. And still potatoes were exported. And still the landlords did well. All the colonialists did well. They always do. So Ireland knows how it feels in the depth of its turf, in the depth of its being, its rock, its stones, its bones it knows the story and that change will come with survival first one step at a time and sometimes words and money can effect change as readily as weapons, the time the past shows the ti...

Banned It was decades ago that flowers were banned in hospitals. Unhygienic, you see. Unsafe. With their smells and susceptibility to spillages. Then there was a pandemic. And people were banned. No visiting allowed Unhygienic, you see. Unsafe with their smells and susceptibility to carry infection. But technology sorted it! Now robots bring flowers robotic flowers with robotic smells, and robotic comfort. Disinfected. Safe. Soon people won’t notice the difference. Soon people won’t remember the difference. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CSDKNKYX?fbclid=IwAR0qzJQdj0vF9_hlQqMt4dIQRIcMxDDJRFHoGmK2Q5CbcvkLIFakq9edjYU

DINNER FOR ONE He promised me the moon that night but I wondered what sort of moon. There are so many. Would it be full or half or quarter or something in-between. I pondered the question then. But it doesn’t matter now I know exactly what I’m getting. He handed them all to me on a plate with a side order of planets and stars. And then he left. https://amoonofonesown.wordpress.com/issue-4/

Long Live The Queen She’s ready now. They’ve fed her royally as befits her station. She’s groomed and pampered, decked in the finest furs and fripperies. She’s ready now eyeing up her suitors as they fly above with fire in their bellies. None will survive the encounter. When their job is done so are they as they surely fall back down to earth. She’s ready now to lay and lay and lay and in return she’ll be fed and watered, groomed and pampered while her fertility and proficiency is closely inspected by her servants. So when her laying slows they make another from her own egg, in her own image to be groomed and pampered and decked in the finest furs and fripperies and when she’s ready they’ll kill the old and lay her to rest. The old queen is dead! Long live the queen! She’s ready now! https://www.ekphrastic.net/the-ekphrastic-challenges/noah-jayne-andrews-ekphrastic-writing-responses

The Restaurant at the End of the Universe It was a splendid restaurant, cheap organic food cooked with flair and imagination a perfect cup of tea and an even more outstanding pan galactic gargle buster cocktail, easily the best drink in the universe. I discovered it when I was hitchhiking, travelling through the galaxy with Arthur. He was similarly impressed, so much so that he asked for the name of their suppliers so that we could fill our backpacks with such delights for the next stage of our journey They told us that everything came from the Heaven And Earth Grocery Store and gave us precise directions of how to find it. But as usual, our sense of direction failed us and we lingered between heaven and earth for some time before the next ship stopped for us. And it was no help, it was as lost as we were. And that’s how we realised a Guide was needed, a specialist hitchhiker’s Guide to the galaxy. https://braveandrecklessblog.com/2024/01/24/nprs-books...

Time’s Echo There’s always a prequel to any drama in the theatre of war a practice run a Guernica a rehearsal for what is to come. It was always misty in history’s theatre, lost in the words of cloudy time but now the fog is so dense that we can see nothing, understand nothing of the power play unfolding. And we’re so swamped with possibilities it’s impossible to know which will be the first step the harbinger of things to come back where they began or Time’s echoing of the end. https://braveandrecklessblog.com/2024/01/24/nprs-books-we-love-times-echo-lynn-white/

Abracadabra Abracadabra! All we need is the magic word to open up the past and step inside the mountain long gone, and enter an age of cold and ice, a vastness, a void of unknown ice caves recreated in our warming times. Abracadabra! All we need is a touch of magic and it will be back the worn down, vanquished vanished past united now for us to step inside, a new old world waiting for us to enter. Just say the word before it melts away! https://lothlorienpoetryjournal.blogspot.com/2024/01/four-poems-by-lynn-white.html
