Guardian Angels


They’re our guardian angels,

that’s what they say.

They care for us,

protect us,

surround us

with love.

That’s what they tell us

but it’s hard to be sure

sometimes 

I think their wings are a devilish disguise

and their faces are flushed red by the furnace

in the hellish depths.

Of course they tell us they’re angels,

they would say that, wouldn’t they

even if they were devils,

especially if they were devils

out to persuade us

deceive us

control us

in our actions

even in our thoughts,

as the price of protection.

Devilish guards

feeding us

feeding our fears

feeding us with lies.

Watching over us

watching us

become as helpless

as a baby 

under their care

under their guard.

A Fictional Account This story is fiction. Made up. Made up like a face.
